Nestled in the idyllic Rhine landscape, the picturesque village of Rheinau is surrounded by steep vineyards. Anyone setting out to explore its streets soon imagines themselves back in the Middle Ages. Time seems to have stood still in this town of stately mansions with stepped gables. Legend has it that the origins of the former Benedictine monastery, located on the small island in the middle of the Rhine, go back to 778 AD.
Today, Rheinau is also well known to music lovers. The famous Rheinau concerts are regularly hosted in the magnificent monastery church, which is open to the public. A large nationwide Swiss music centre was built in Rheinau in the summer of 2014.
